Paramus Flying Club operates 3 airplanes out of two Metro NYC area airports: Caldwell/Essex County (KCDW) and Linden (KLDJ). Each airport has one Cessna 172. Our SMA diesel 182 is operated out of Caldwell.
Both airports can be reached by public transportation. Linden is the closest general aviation airport to Manhattan. You can easily reach Linden by taking New Jersey Transit to the Linden station (to get to NJTransit from Manhattan, take the PATH to Newark Penn Station). The airport is a quick 5 minute taxi ride from the station. Caldwell, is a towered Class D airport well situated for NJ and NYC members alike. Caldwell can also be reached by public transportation—a bus with 15 minute walk.
Both airports have full service FBO facilities.
Caldwell / Essex County Airport (KCDW, Official Website, AirNav)
Located in northern New Jersey, Essex County Airport, known more commonly as Caldwell Airport, is a towered Class D field with crossing runways. KCDW is located just west of busy Teterboro, under the 3,000 ft shelf of the NY Class-B. It is about 20 miles from NYC and is served by good public transportation (Lakeland Bus from Port Authority) and highways.
Caldwell provides pilots with two asphalt runways—4553×80 and 3721×75, respectively—and GPS RNAV, LOC and NDB approaches. Our FBO, AirBound is open 6am-11pm daily, and provides fuel service, preheat, over-night hangaring, and provides a pleasant environment in which to meet your passengers.
Linden Airport (KLDJ, AirNav)
Best located for those who live in New York City and central New Jersey, Linden is a non-towered field that has the pace of a small field in the midst of a busy Class-B airspace. Just 3 miles from Newark International Airport, and only 8 miles from NYC, Linden is serviced by public transportation (NJ Transit train from Newark Penn Station) and highways.
Linden provides pilots with a 4137×100 asphalt runway, and GPS approaches. Our tie-downs are a stone’s throw from the parking area. Linden Air Service provides clean and professional facilities. Taxis are available to take you the short $6 trip to the train station before heading into NYC or beyond. Car rentals are also available on the field. With Checkers at the end of the runway, you can spend some time eating a burger and assessing the landing techniques of your fellow pilots.
